The Face In The Abyss
The Face in the Abyss (1923)
A. Merritt
Lost-race novella about a man and his three treasure-hunting companions who stumble upon an ancient civilization in the Andes. The man falls for a beautiful native of that race, while the others are more interested in its gold and jewels. An exciting hodgepodge of fantasy elements (and very little science), but with some good ideas, including the terrible face that each of the men must confront at the climax.
