Metzengerstein

Metzengerstein (1832)

Edgar Allan Poe

Young baron reaps the vengeance of his hated neighbors in the form of a fabulous horse with which he becomes fascinated. An uneasy mix of atmosphere and narrative, neither of which amount to much in the end. One of three Poe stories freely adapted for the screen in the anthology film “Spirits of the Dead,” this one starring Jane Fonda and directed by Roger Vadim.
